This position is responsible for serving as a full-time faculty
member in the School of Nursing on Union University's Jackson
campus. Full-time contracts are 12-month contracts. Appointed to
rank and tenure status by the Provost.

Essential Job Duties
Instruction
* Designs cognitive, affective, and psychomotor strategies and
techniques in classroom and clinical areas to enhance the learning
of students in accordance with the curriculum established by the
faculty of the School of Nursing. The strategies and techniques
should be derived with the intent to deliver an excellence-driven,
Christ-centered, people-focused, and future-directed learning
methodology.
* Implements theoretical and/or clinical instruction in one or more
courses and/or special studies offered each semester as assigned by
the appropriate Chair.
* Demonstrates a Christ-centered and person-focused professional
nurse role model of teacher, mentor, advocate, practitioner,
collaborator, researcher and resource person.
* Serves as course/program liaison to clinical agencies and
community organizations which are used for students' clinical
experiences.
* Plans clear course outcomes. Assesses records related to
evaluation of student outcomes and course grades. Meets with
students in the current instructional group.
* Maintains regular office hours.
Student Motivation and Relationships
* Creates activities to assist students to develop critical
thinking skills. Facilitate/guides the progress of students toward
achievement of course and program outcomes. Makes relevant and
realistic course assignments.
* Demonstrates interest in the personal and professional growth of
students. Maintains effective interpersonal relationships with
students. Demonstrates concern for student progress. Interacts with
students in a respectful manner.
* Meets with student academic advisees as needed; maintains
advisee's academic file; collaborates with others in student or
school-related activities; and sponsors student organizations on a
rotating basis.
Professional Responsibilities
* Participates in university committees as assigned. Participates
in program planning and School of Nursing standing and ad hoc
committees as designated by the Dean.
* Applies Christian standards and attitudes in relationships among
cohorts, faculty, staff, and students. Contributes to a positive
work climate and team effort within the school. Maintains effective
interpersonal relationships with full and part-time faculty, staff,
nursing service, and all other persons having a direct impact on
the program.
* Maintains nursing skills and knowledge through formal and
informal channels at current levels of accepted practice;
participates in professional organizations and scholarly
activities; demonstrates scholarship through the engagement of
intellectual inquiry to further the profession of nursing. Attends
professional meetings, workshops, and/or conventions; takes part in
campus and community activities related to the discipline of
nursing.
* Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner; submits budget and
textbook requests for assigned courses by the posted deadlines; and
assists with Pre-Registration and Registration as necessary.
Other Job Duties Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master
of Nursing degree is required. The earned degree must be from a
regionally accredited institution that is appropriate for the area
of teaching according to accreditation standards of the Commission
on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Demonstrated clinical experience in
Medical-Surgical is also required. This position requires an
individual with prior experience in client care, teaching
experience at the appropriate level of nursing education, and who
is eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in the state of
Tennessee.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates holding a DNP or Ph.D.

Physical Requirements
The work performed by this position is of a general office and
classroom nature. While performing the duties of the job, the
employee is regularly required to perform the following:
* Speaking and hearing ability to sufficiently communicate in
person or over the telephone.
* Walk from office to the classroom and from one campus office to
another office/building on campus.
* Spend extended periods of time sitting and standing with
occasional instances of bending and stooping. Classroom and
laboratory settings require periods of standing and sitting for the
duration of class (1 to 3 hours).
* Ability to lift and carry files and materials, handle various
types of media and equipment, occasionally required to lift and/or
move up to 10 pounds, unless otherwise specified.
* Have adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to read words
and numbers and interact with people in person, on the phone,
through a computer, and in writing. Requires the ability to
identify, observe, and assess visual color discrimination and depth
perception.
* Ability to reach with hands and arms; use hands to handle or feel
objects, tools, or controls (e.g. mouse, keyboard, telephone, lab
equipment). Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a
computer keyboard and other office equipment.
