Position Title Faculty in Biology - Anatomy Division College of Arts & Sciences (DIV) Department Biology Location Jackson Job Summary

This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Biology. Teaching responsibilities include Anatomy courses to a wide variety of students, from graduate Pharmacy and Nursing students to undergraduate Biology and Nursing students. Experience in histology and an interest in participating in our plastination facility is preferred. The ability to teach other courses in our curriculum would be helpful. The candidate must also demonstrate a willingness to mentor undergraduate students in suitable ongoing research projects. Rank assignment commensurate with education and experience.

Essential Job Duties

* Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Human Gross Anatomy, and others as assigned. Union has one of the few plastination facilities in the country, so we anticipate that the candidate will be involved with this facility.
* Design and deliver class instruction through the development of instructional plans to meet course competencies, the development of activities that support lesson objectives, and the development of critical thinking skills.
* Facilitate/guide the progress of students toward achievement of course and program outcomes. Plan clear course outcomes. Assess records related to the evaluation of student outcomes and course grades.
* Demonstrate a willingness to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in ongoing research projects. Opportunities exist for intra- and interdepartmental collaborations.
* Participate on university committees as assigned. Participate in program planning and School/Department standing and ad hoc committees as designated by the Dean.
* Participate in professional organizations and scholarly activities. Attend professional meetings, workshops, and/or conventions.
* Assist with Pre-Registration and Registration as necessary.
* Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with full and part-time faculty, staff, and all other persons having a direct impact on the program.
* Maintain regular office hours for student accessibility.

Other Job Duties Required Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in an appropriate Biology-related discipline. Candidates who are ABD at the time of hiring will be expected to complete the terminal degree soon after arrival.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with previous college-level teaching experience. Ideal candidate would have a strong background in Human Anatomy.

Physical Requirements

The work performed by this position is of a general office/laboratory nature. It requires the ability to operate a computer and communicate on the telephone and in writing. Work performed does require some walking on campus, extended periods of time sitting and standing, and some daily instances of bending, stooping, and carrying items up to 25 pounds. Anatomy courses or research may require additional physical demands appropriate for the situation, such as the movement, transfer, and positioning of cadavers.
