Certifications: Valid driver's license required Description: The
Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing
care. This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider's
orders, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting in
examinations and treatments. The RN applies nursing and supervisory
techniques required in the care, treatment, and referrals of
inmates/residents. They perform all technical and clinical
procedures within their education and licensure. The RN attends
sick call with the physician to assess inmates/residents. They
prepare a list of inmates/residents to be examined and set up the
examining room and equipment. The RN operates pill call, dispenses
medication, and documents as required by applicable policies. They
contact Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment
orders or other emergencies. The RN examines and assesses new
inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries or those who become
ill. They refer inmates/residents to the emergency room or another
appropriate healthcare facility as needed. The RN performs
emergency procedures as necessary and notifies the Licensed
Independent Provider for treatment orders. They assist in
coordinating professional medical services provided by contract
personnel. The RN monitors inmate/resident hospitalizations for
early releases whenever appropriate. They provide guidance,
supervision, and monitor nursing care provided by licensed
vocational and non-licensed medical staff. The RN maintains a good
working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, and
outside provider agencies. They utilize established policies and
procedures to make decisions, using sound independent judgment. The
RN regularly evaluates the provision of medical services to prevent
inappropriate use or duplication. They maintain absolute security
and confidentiality of all medical records. The RN assists with the
review of medical files to ensure documentation of all provided
services. They closely monitor all potential catastrophic
illnesses. The RN audits pharmacy use for adherence to formulary.
They comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those
covering controlled substances. The RN observes and records
inmate/resident behavior. They inspect the medical unit for items
that could be used as contraband. The RN provides health counseling
and health education on an individual or group basis as required.
They assist with preparing and maintaining various records,
reports, and logs. The RN reads, analyzes, comprehends, and
interprets medical and technical procedures, governmental
regulations, and legal documents. They review and respond to
lawsuits and attend court hearings when necessary. The RN
facilitates accreditation of the medical program by providing
appropriate medical services. They prepare and disseminate safety
and accident reports as required and take appropriate action in
