Job Description:
University of Tennessee Health Science Center
Chief Development Officer / Associate Vice Chancellor for
Advancement
Bryant Group is proud to partner with the University of Tennessee
Health Science Center in the search for a highly impactful and
strategic leader for the role of Chief Development Officer /
Associate Vice Chancellor (CDO/AVC). This is an exceptional
opportunity to lead the charge in advancing the future of
philanthropy at one of the nation's premier academic health
institutions.
As a senior leader within the Advancement division and a member of
the Vice Chancellor's executive leadership team, the CDO/AVC will
play a vital role in shaping the long-term strategic direction of
fundraising across Health Sciences. This individual will lead all
major and annual giving efforts, overseeing a dynamic team of gift
officers and working collaboratively with university leadership and
the University of Tennessee Foundation to secure transformative
support that powers the institution's boldest ambitions.
In this highly visible and influential role, the CDO/AVC will
manage a portfolio of the university's most significant donors and
prospects. Partnering closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor
for Gift Planning and Principal Gifts, the CDO/AVC will cultivate
and steward high-level relationships that result in impactful
giving. Significant travel will be required to champion the health
science mission and secure gifts that directly support its
academic, research, and clinical excellence.
Beyond fundraising, the CDO/AVC will be a
culture-builder-empowering and elevating the major and annual
giving teams, streamlining operations, and fostering a
collaborative environment where innovation and results thrive. This
leader will help spearhead key initiatives, including a new
scholarship initiative and support for a new interdisciplinary
building anchored by the College of Medicine, ensuring these
efforts are executed with excellence and strategic clarity.
This is a high-impact, high-visibility role for a forward-thinking
advancement professional who thrives in a fast-paced,
mission-driven environment. If you are passionate about making a
difference, inspired by the power of philanthropy, and ready to
help shape the future of health sciences across Tennessee and
beyond, this is your opportunity to lead at the highest level and
drive transformative change.
The ideal candidate brings over a decade, preferably more, of
progressive experience in major gift fundraising, with a proven
record of leading successful philanthropic initiatives within
large, complex organizations-preferably in academic medicine. They
have demonstrated the ability to effectively lead teams, drive
strategic fundraising efforts across principal, major, annual, and
planned giving, and build strong, collaborative relationships with
donors, staff, institutional leaders, and the community.
